Podczas czytania nie można uciec od skojarzeń takich jak „Nawiedzony dom na wzgórzu” Shirley Jackson, czy „Lśnienie” Stephena Kinga. „Całopalenie” to klasycznie zbudowana powieść grozy, w której atmosfera niespiesznie, lecz niepohamowanie się zagęszcza, aby na samym końcu czytelnik nie był mógł opanować emocji i za wszelką cenę chciał poznać rozwiązanie. Oprócz dobrze zarysowanej fabuły, autorowi całkiem nieźle wyszło wykreowanie samych bohaterów. Z początku nie byłam w stanie ich polubić, byli mi absolutnie obojętni, mogę wręcz powiedzieć, że przeszkadzali mi w odbiorze fabuły. Jednak stopniowo, równolegle z rozwojem akcji i pod wpływem destruktywnego działania domu, rozwijali się bohaterowie. I w moim odczuciu wyszło to bardzo dobrze.
I teraz najważniejsze pytanie, jeśli chodzi o powieści grozy: czy straszy? Raczej nie. Tworzy napięcie, można odczuć lekki niepokój, ale żądni pierwotnego strachu bedą zawiedzeni.
